WHO WE ARE

The Michigan Geological Repository for Research and Education (MGRRE) and Michigan Basin Core Research Laboratory (MBCRL) at Western Michigan University’s Department of Geosciences are dedicated to enriching and enhancing science education for K-12 students across Michigan.

MGRRE houses the largest collection of subsurface data and rock samples in Michigan.  WMU-MGRRE scientists are dedicated to helping students and their teachers visualize what is underfoot in their own backyards and learn to read the “rock record” to understand the history of our constantly changing planet and the importance of safely and efficiently managing earth’s natural resources.

The earth is ancient…

The earth is constantly

        changing

The earth is rich in natural

        resources

The earth impacts us, and we

        impact the earth…

We can help you to bring these concepts alive for your students with rock samples and data taken from deep within the earth through:

·        TEACHER WORKSHOPS

·        FIELD TRIPS TO THE LAB

·        SCHOOL VISITS

·        INTERNSHIPS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
